Moving from a consumer plan to a business plan
When a business plan makes sense, what changes (VAT, contract rules, support) and what to check before you move your number.
Prices exclude VAT unless stated.Checked on each provider's own page, 5 November 2026.SimSift is independent. Most links in SimSift for Business are plain links we don't earn from. What changes when you move
- Prices are shown before VAT. Business networks quote ex VAT. If you're VAT-registered you can usually reclaim VAT on the business share of a phone or broadband bill; if a line is partly personal, you can only reclaim the business part (HMRC). The standard rate is 20% (GOV.UK).
- Different contract rules. Some consumer protections apply differently to businesses. Ofcom's rules for small businesses (10 or fewer staff): you must get a short contract summary before you sign, landline and broadband contracts can't renew automatically without your consent, and contracts shouldn't be longer than 24 months unless you agree (Ofcom).
- Price rises. Business plans rise each year too. Since 17 January 2025 the monthly price and any set rises must be shown in pounds and pence before you sign (Ofcom).
- Support and service levels. Business plans may come with a service level agreement (SLA) on repairs. Ofcom says only half of small businesses know about SLAs, so ask (Ofcom).

Is it worth it?
If you aren't VAT-registered, compare the inc-VAT price. Our business SIM table shows both, and our consumer SIM comparison lets you check the other side.
